After a few short months, Brooke Berger has settled into her AmeriCorps role as SYRCL’s River Monitoring Coordinator. After recruitment and orientation activities in February and March, SYRCL’s River Monitoring Program is thrilled to welcome 16 new stewards of the Yuba! Volunteers from all over the watershed convened at beautiful at the South Yuba River State Park at Bridgeport on April 17th to learn the technical skills required to collect high caliber scientific water quality data. Hands on learning was the focus of the day with new monitors using pH and conductivity meters in the river and conducting dissolved oxygen titrations. Now, with training successfully behind them, all new monitors are feeling confident and ready to head out May 8th to one of SYRCL’s 43 monitoring sites on the Yuba. Many thanks to our new monitors and existing monitors for your enthusiasm, dedication, and the time you dedicate to our river!
