What to expect for the Grouse Ridge Trail Maintenance Day – Saturday, September 18, 2010 (8 am – 5 pm)

All participants should arrive at the forest service office on Coyote Street and Highway 49 at 8 am to carpool up to Grouse Ridge. We will be preparing the trails to be more stable over the winter and fix them from the summer usage. This is a strenuous physical activity. There will be several site leaders and if there are enough participants we might divide up and work on several different trails (Grouse Ridge lookout, Carr/Feeley and/or Loney Meadows). This activity is open to children ages 14 and above, but they must be accompanied by a parent or an adult for the day.

  • Please bring a hearty lunch, lots of water, sun hat, sunscreen, good hiking boots, work gloves and a shovel or pick.

What to expect for the Bridgeport Restoration Project – Saturday, September 25, 2010

All participants should arrive at their site by 8:30 am. Brooke Berger, our Americorps member will be there to sign you in. The Restoration Project is a strenuous physical activity of removing and pulling invasive non-native plants of Himalayan blackberry, star thistle, Italian thistle, English Ivy, and Mediterranean grasses. Most of the plants have defensives against being eaten by animals so stickers or thorns are part of their plant anatomy. This activity is open to children ages 12 and above, but they must be accompanied by a parent for the day.

If you are participating in the Restoration portion of the day please wear the following:

  • The same as above and also wearing Long pants and a long shirt

There is also one large restoration project occurring in Grass Valley, on the Bennett Street Meadow. Please read the sites and directions for more information about this project.

On September 18, there will also be a trail maintenance restoration project in Grouse Ridge, Tahoe National Forest. The directions and more information is also available in the sites and directions PDF.

Waiver Forms

A waiver forms is required by each person participating in either the restoration project or a cleanup site. You may complete the waiver form at your site upon arrival. However, participants under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian signature as well. Therefore, we recommend that you download the form at this link, WAIVER FORM LINK , and bring it to the restoration project or cleanup site all signed. If you are a group, such as a girl or Boy Scout troop, please have the parents sign the forms in advance as the leader may not sign for the troop.
